Adaysia Coles Extradited from Alabama After Taylor Sylver Gunned Down In NoDa Shooting

A late-night shooting in Charlotte’s popular NoDa neighborhood turned deadly Thursday morning after a 38-year-old woman was gunned down near one of the city’s busiest nightlife strips — and police say the suspected killer was tracked down hundreds of miles away in Alabama before the day was even over.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded just after 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, to the 3200 block of North Davidson Street near East 35th Street after reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Taylor Sylver suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

The deadly shooting happened right in the heart of Charlotte’s trendy NoDa district — an area packed with bars, restaurants, breweries, music spots, and nightlife crowds that usually stay active deep into the early morning hours.

But by Thursday evening, investigators had already identified a suspect.

Police say 26-year-old Adaysia Yahel Coles was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama later that same day in connection to Sylver’s killing.

Investigators have still not released a motive or explained what caused the deadly violence, but according to the victim’s brother, Sylver Morris, rumors circulating online about the shooting allegedly being over a man are false.

In an emotional social media post, Morris pushed back against the speculation while grieving the loss of his sister.

“Tay was not arguing over any man! A woman got in her car, drove up and shot her twice in the chest,” Morris wrote in his post.

Morris said Taylor leaves behind a large family, including four brothers, three sisters, and 18 nieces and nephews.

According to Morris, Taylor lost her life after what was supposed to be “a simple evening out for drinks with a trusted family friend.”

Loved ones described Taylor as the “life of the party” and someone whose energy and presence brought comfort to the people around her.

In ending, Morris said:

“She (Taylor) was a happy, beautiful, goofy, and kind person who didn’t deserve to die this way.”
