Burlington NC Funeral Home Shooting
BURLINGTON, N.C.— While Mourners were still grieving at a heartbreaking service for a 2½-year-old child, all hell broke loose outside the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home on Glenwood Avenue Saturday afternoon.
Around 2:15 p.m. on April 25, a nasty argument turned into a shooting. According to Burlington Police, 24-year-old Trevonte Jaquan McGhee allegedly stepped outside and started blasting away with an assault-style rifle.
McGhee then jumped into a getaway car driven by 24-year-old Cazari Monique Russell and fled. Cops spotted the vehicle fast, tried to pull it over… and that’s when the car didn’t stop. The pair led police on a high-speed chase through Burlington before McGhee tossed the rifle out.
The chase ended when the car lost control and slammed straight into a nearby house. Miraculously, nobody was hurt in the shooting or the crash. Officers arrested both suspects on the spot and transported to the Alamance County Jail.
Trevonte Jaquan McGhee is facing multiple serious charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, going armed to the terror of the people, discharging a firearm within city limits, disorderly conduct at a funeral home, and leaving the scene of a crash as a passenger.
Cazari Monique Russell, who was behind the wheel, faces charges of going armed to the terror of the people, misdemeanor conspiracy, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light.
Police say there’s zero ongoing threat to the community.
