A father dies in patio nightclub shooting in Raleigh leaving behind a young daughter and devastated family as police continue searching for answers
RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Beat has learned that one of the two men shot inside Patio Nightclub early Sunday morning has died from his injuries.
Family and friends have identified the victim as Jorge Dorantes Carranza, 32, originally from San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Loved ones say Carranza was more than just a victim — he was a hardworking car mechanic and the sole provider for his 13-year-old daughter.
His sister, Andrea Medina, told Mexican media that her brother fought for hours after being shot but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The deadly shooting unfolded around 1:27 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the club located at 3925 New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.
The North Carolina Beat previously released video footage from inside the club showing the chaotic aftermath. However, it remains unclear whether the man seen in the video is Carranza or the second victim.

At this time, the Raleigh Police Department has not publicly confirmed the identity of the deceased victim.
FAMILY SPEAKS OUT
Carranza’s sister confirmed his death publicly while sharing a GoFundMe created to support the family.
In the fundraiser, she described him as their oldest brother who meant everything to the family.
“He was always protective of us,” the family shared. “He brought smiles and laughter even during difficult times.”
They said Carranza often hid his own struggles to uplift others, choosing positivity even when things were hard.
Now, the family is facing the devastating reality of planning his funeral and supporting a young girl who will grow up without her father.
According to police, officers responded to the nightclub and found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Carranza later died from his injuries.
As of now no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
