NC mom leaves kids in car at Walmart while she was allegedly inside stealing from a Washington NC store.

WASHINGTON, NC — A North Carolina woman was arrested after police say she left her small children sitting inside a car while she allegedly went inside Walmart trying to steal merchandise.

Authorities say 35-year-old Erika Dixon Johnson was arrested after an incident that went down on March 14 at a Walmart in Washington, NC.

According to investigators, Johnson allegedly tried to hide unpaid items inside the store — but she wasn’t even supposed to be inside that Walmart in the first place due to a prior ban.

So not only was she allegedly stealing… she was already trespassing.

While officers were handling the situation, police say Johnson gave misleading information about where her vehicle was located.

But things quickly changed when a young child reportedly mentioned others being left inside the car.

That’s when officers reviewed surveillance footage and tracked down the vehicle.

Inside, they found two very young children — just 3 months old and 2 years old — alone.

Reports say both children showed signs of overheating and were sweating heavily. At one point, they were described as unresponsive, but thankfully they were later stabilized.

CHARGES ON TOP OF CHARGES

Johnson is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Child abuse (2 counts)

  • Second-degree trespassing

  • Shoplifting / concealment

  • Resisting an officer (2 counts)

  • Possession of a Schedule III substance

She was also cited for parking in a handicap space.
