Teen Scammed Boyfriend Out of Thousands Using Fake Baby Photos, Investigators Say
COWETA COUNTY, GA —A Georgia teen scammed her boyfriend out of more than $7,000, according to Georgia authorities, after allegedly lying about having his baby and demanding ongoing financial support.
Investigators say the teen, 18-year-old Brya Hardy of Newnan, Georgia, scammed her boyfriend by presenting photos of a child she claimed was theirs, collecting repeated payments she labeled as child support. The case has now resulted in felony charges after deputies determined the baby used in the alleged scheme did not belong to the suspect or the victim.

Investigators say Hardy allegedly convinced her then-boyfriend that she had given birth to his child, repeatedly requesting money she claimed was for child support, baby supplies, and related expenses.
Over time, the man reportedly sent multiple payments totaling more than $7,000, believing he was financially supporting his own child.
But here’s where it gets wild.
Detectives later discovered the child Hardy showed in photos was not biologically related to her — and not related to the victim either. Law enforcement determined the baby used in the alleged scheme belonged to an entirely different person.
Sheriff’s Office Steps In After Teen Scammed Boyfriend
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit launched a probe in early December after the man reported suspected fraud. Following interviews and evidence review, deputies obtained a warrant for Hardy’s arrest.
She was taken into custody on December 31, 2025.
Hardy has been formally charged with theft by deception, a felony offense that involves intentionally misleading someone to obtain money or property.
At this time, officials have not released details about Hardy’s bond, court date, or whether additional charges could be filed. Investigators say the case remains active and encourage anyone who believes they may have been similarly targeted to contact the sheriff’s office.
