5-year-old shot by 3-year-old in Henderson
A tragic shooting in Henderson, North Carolina, has left a 5-year-old girl dead after she was shot by her 3-year-old brother inside their home Friday morning.
According to a press release from the Henderson Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Gary Street around 9:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the young girl suffering from a single gunshot wound. Despite immediate efforts to render aid, she did not survive.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the shooting occurred inside the family’s home when “another minor living in the same home had accessed an unsecured firearm and discharged it, striking the deceased,” the release stated.
Police confirmed that the firearm used in the incident has been recovered, along with other evidence.
“The investigation will require time and various resources, including consultation with the District Attorney’s Office,” officials said.
The North Carolina Beat has identified the victim as 5-year-old Avah Gracelynn and the brother as 3-year-old Waylon Lee.

Authorities have not yet confirmed if any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
This is a developing story.
I dont think he pointed it and shot Avah. I think maybe the child was trying to get it and it fall and went off. There’s more to it and fi gets ring pointed but no one really knows what happens. The mean thing is a child has died
Her classmates had not found out yet and you put her picture and her name as well as the 3yr olds name..what about blasting the parents name they are the ones in the wrong that 3yr old didn’t know better. This is so messy. You should have waited before posting her picture and not posted the brother’s name.
Why would the classmates of a 5 year old be on internet! Why would the classmates of a 5 year old be on a blog
Why would the classmates of a 5 year old be on internet! Why would the classmates of a 5 year old be on a blog
lol thats the schools job to notify the class & parents, 5 yos shouldnt be on computer unsupervised anyways. this comment makes no sense
Its always so sad to read stuff like this. Im just trying to understand how a three year old has enough strength in his little ole finger to pull a trigger 🧐. Something doesn’t seem quite right 🤷🏾♂️
Unfortunately the parents may have also thought a 3 year old wouldn’t have had enough strength to discharge it
Regardless it should’ve been immediately secured and in a place where children couldn’t access it even if they tried Regardless if they thought that the kids were strong enough or not
Never underestimate kids FrFr! They are sometimes strong af and mischievous lil beings that are capable of things you’d never believe they are capable of at those young ages
Think about some babies actually
babies babies like months old and their strength when grabbing your cheeks or nose or hair and stuff
They are strong af sometimes like when they’ve got something you try to get their hand open to take from them
They can be Strong as idk what I know mine definitely has the strength in his tiny lil fingers and hands to discharge one
Crazy sad tragic accidents happen also as it Is
Never underestimate anything or anyone of any age think and be responsible gun owners & parents so accidents such as this one will hopefully one day not happen anymore
It’s distasteful for the adults not to have the guns secured.
This is distasteful! Adding pictures and names of the babies that were affected by this tragedy! What/who does it serve to do that?
It’s distasteful for a parent to leave an unsecured out! Someone sent HIM pictures and obviously a family member
No. Those pics were copied from their mother’s Facebook account. There is a reason reputable news outlets didn’t post pictures and names of children, or take pictures of this little girl and throw their logo all over it like it’s their’s. This is a tragedy, plain and simple. The parents have lost their little girl and their lives have been torn apart. They are heartbroken and taking this really hard. They know they made a mistake. Nobody feels that more than they do. Just remember, every parent is one mistake away from losing a child.
