According to investigators, on Saturday, October 28th, at approximately 12:47 a.m., officers responded to the 9500 block of Brookshire Boulevard regarding a motor vehicle crash that involved three pedestrians. Upon arrival, officers found a 2018 Freightliner tractor trailer and two pedestrians injured, while a third was uninjured.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced 3-year-old Corben Murray dead.
Corben’s mother, 34-year-old Samantha Anita Murray, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The uninjured third person, who is a juvenile, was also transported to the hospital with no injuries.
The investigators stated that the driver of the Freightliner, Daniel Scott Davis, remained at the scene and did not sustainany injuries.
According to investigators, Samantha, Corben, and the unidentified juvenile were walking west across Brookshire Boulevard in a crosswalk when Samantha and 3-year-old Corben were struck by Davis. Investigators said Davis was traveling south on Brookeshire Boulevard and had a solid green light in his direction at the time of the crash.
Investigators said that Samantha, Corben, and the unidentified juvenile were crossing the pedestrian crosswalk while the pedestrian crossing light displayed a red hand.
Davis was screened for impairment and was found to be free of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police determined that speed was not a contributing factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
