Two individuals were shot in close proximity to each other in Raleigh on Saturday night into early Sunday morning, with both incidents occurring within an hour, according to Raleigh police.
One of the victims, identified as 22-year-old Joris Cooper, was fatally shot. The first shooting took place around 11:49 p.m. at the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Clanton Street. Cooper succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Tyrika Roary, Cooper’s mother, informed WRAL News that her son, known as JJ, was on his way to Taco Bell on Western Boulevard when he was shot. No arrests have been made in connection with Cooper’s death.
Approximately an hour later, at 12:50 a.m., Raleigh police received a report of another shooting at the intersection of Gorman Street and Sherman Avenue. A man was discovered by authorities with severe gunshot wounds and was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention.
North Carolina State University Police is currently involved in the investigation, and no individuals have been apprehended in connection with the second shooting. The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed by the authorities. The potential correlation between the two incidents remains uncertain.
