Authorities in Fayetteville have charged 19-year-old Sierra Chambers with first-degree murder in the tragic death of 7-year-old Zion Gibbs.
Gibbs, a joyful child known for his love of video games, was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting in June while playing on his couch at home. Initially, Chambers was charged with accessory after the fact in October, but investigators have now presented sufficient evidence to hit her with first-degree murder.
While police continue to investigate other possible suspects in Gibbs’ death, Chambers remains the only individual publicly named in connection to the crime. Investigators traced the car used in the shooting, a black Chrysler 200, which was found on private property in Winston-Salem. The vehicle showed signs of damage, including a bullet hole on the passenger side and a dent in the driver’s door.
Further details from Chambers’ arrest warrant reveal her involvement in aiding another person, suspected of being the shooter, to evade authorities. This second individual is identified only by an alias in the warrant, with no official name being released at this time. Police also allege that Chambers attempted to alter the appearance of her vehicle by removing a white sticker from the back windshield before storing the car, outside the jurisdiction of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Chambers is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center
