Police in the Queen City have announced that they have apprehended a man who they believe is responsible for shootingand fatally injuring a 14-year-old Garinger High School basketball player on Sunday evening.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, they reported that a 14-year-old boy named Johnie McClendon was shot in the head. Officers learned this information after responding to a shooting incident at a residence on Keswick Avenue in North Charlotte at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Early Tuesday, police announced that 19-year-old Myhijee Major had turned himself in. He was interviewed and then promptly booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with McClendon’s murder.

McClendon was a student at Garinger High School.
