In a tragic turn of events, 17-year-old Dyzer Gooding lost her life on Sunday night in Kinston, North Carolina during a Memorial Day Celebration.
The Kinston Police Department responded to calls at Bille Faye Park around 9:20 p.m., where they found Gooding among a crowd of about 200 people, tragically deceased.
Reports indicate that chaos erupted during the party, with an unidentified group engaging in a reckless exchange of gunfire that ultimately claimed Gooding’s life.
Kinston Mayor Don Hardy, who has been grappling with escalating violence and police misconduct in the city, expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Gooding’s family and urged the community to unite against such senseless acts of violence.
A video circulating on Instagram Live, captured by a user under the handle jaleiyaniyeil._ and obtained by The North Carolina Beat, depicts a tense scene inside a dark car as it speeds away from the shooting, the sound of impact echoing in the background.
