A house party in North Carolina with over 200 people in attendance has left one teenager dead and another hurt.
Police in Nash County says they responded to a report of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. early Sunday morning in the 3600 block of Lonesome Pine Road in Whitakers, a rural area in northern Nash County.
According to Major Eddie Moore with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, as the party was ending, an altercation broke out, and at least two people were shot, leaving one dead.
The teen killed at the party was identified as 17-year-old Melito Armstrong Jr. He was shot in the chest. His mother told local media that he had recently turned 17 in July.
According to Major Moore, the other person injured was transported to Nash UNC Health Care with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Police say the altercation broke out amongst two groups known to each other, and the shooting was not a random act.
According to Major Moore, the suspects responsible for the shooting left the scene before police arrived.
Major Moore said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
I understand that people are outside, outside, trying to enjoy their summer and live their best life due to being locked in the house during the pandemic, but damn, don’t forget COVID-19 is still outside, and the Monkeypox is outside too.
The North Carolina Beat is working to learn more details about this shooting.
