How could you do this to your own child?
Well apparently, a mother and her boyfriend allegedly abused, burned, and shot her 15-year-old daughter, nearly killing the child. Sheriff Tim Soignet revealed that the girl was discovered severely burned, shot multiple times, and barely holding onto life after a vehicle collision in Baytown, Texas, late on April 20th.

Reports from Baytown indicated that the vehicle had been driving recklessly on I-10 East before crashing on a service road, prompting concerned citizens to alert authorities. The 15-year-old girl’s mother, Latonya Harris, 40, and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Terrence Washington, who was behind the wheel during the incident, were apprehended.
The 15-year-old victim was rushed to a medical facility, while another 10-year-old child was taken from the vehicle. Soignet described the burns on the girl’s upper body as “horrifying,” with a Baytown investigator labeling her injuries, which included gunshot wounds to the chest and face, as the most severe she had encountered in her entire career.
The 15-year-old child had suffered third and fourth degree burns covering 30% of her body, according to investigators.
Boyfriend admit to crimes
According to Fox8Live, Washington confessed in an interview with investigators to sexually assaulting the victim for an extended period and shooting her accidentally during a dispute with Harris at their Thibodaux residence. He claimed the gun he was holding discharged, hitting the victim in the face.
Soignet mentioned that Washington initially admitted to burning the girl in February 2024, which they were trying to treat at home. After the shooting, the couple and the victim left for Texas with another 10-year-old girl in the car. Following the accident and subsequent arrests, the minor was taken back to Louisiana by a relative.

The 10-year-old recounted waking up one night during Mardi Gras to witness the victim’s body on fire. She described Harris standing over the her daughter’s bed with rubbing alcohol and a lighter.Â
Search warrant reveals signs of shooting, blood, and a scent of infection and decaying flesh
A warrant was granted to search the family’s residence on the vibrant West Park Avenue in Thibodaux. Investigators stumbled upon signs of a shooting, traces of blood, and a pungent scent hinting at infection and decaying flesh. During a subsequent conversation with Washington, he apparently changed his tune, revealing that Harris had accused the 15-year-old of sexual abuse, ignited her while he was away, and callously neglected to get her medical help.
After being discharged from a Texas hospital and taken into custody in Terrebonne Parish, Harris chose to remain silent when questioned by detectives. She faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, and domestic abuse battery child endangerment, with a hefty $1 million bond keeping her detained.
Washington found himself in quite a pickle, facing a laundry list of serious charges including attempted murder, cruelty to a juvenile, obstruction of justice, molestation, indecent behavior, and rape. Currently residing in the Harris County Detention Center in Texas, he will soon be handed over to the Terrebonne Parish authorities to face the music there.
