A woman reportedly shot another woman at the scene of a car accident on Tuesday, who had stopped to assist, as per the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Matt Hair Road and Cogdell Road. Law enforcement officers quickly responded to the crash and shooting, discovering a woman with a gunshot wound to her face.
The injured woman was promptly taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Woman stopped to help after seeing crash
As per a witness who spoke to WRAL news, the woman who was shot was an innocent bystander who had stopped to offer assistance. The witness informed the news outlet that after the crash victim entered the bystander’s vehicle, the bystander was unfortunately shot in the cheek. Investigators have confirmed that the woman was simply trying to lend a helping hand when the incident occurred.
Visha Franklin charged with attempted first-degree murder
Police have identified the individual responsible for the shooting as 41-year-old Visha Franklin from Fayetteville. She has been taken into custody and is facing charges including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and four counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

Eyewitnesses at the scene attempted to persuade Franklin to surrender the gun, but she refused. According to reports from WRAL, one witness described Franklin as removing her clothes and challenging a firefighter, claiming to God.
Fortunately, the victim is expected to recover from the incident, and occurrences of this nature are uncommon.
Franklin was being held at the Cumberland County Center without bond. She had her first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
A judge changed Franklin’s bond from denied to $500,000.
