Stough Elementary School first-grade teacher Angela Bowman seen on video assaulting a 6-year-old student
A first-grade teacher at Stough Elementary in Raleigh, North Carolina has been suspended after a video captured by a teacher assistant showed her assaulting one of her students.
Asia Blount told The North Carolina Beat that her 6-year-old daughter, who is a student at Stough Elementary School in Raleigh, was assaulted by her teacher, Angela Bowman, on October 30, 2023.
“At first I didn’t know anything about it”, Blount told The North Carolina Beat. “It happened on October 30 and no-one from the school called me and told me anything.”
Blount stated that she did not receive a phone call regarding the incident until a month later, on December 4th. The call was from Jerry Griffith, whom Blount said identified himself as an employee relations representative from Wake County Public Schools.

“He told me that my daughter’s teacher was out for an investigation because they had two videos of her putting her hands on my daughter,” Blount said. “He described both videos to me.”
In one of the videos obtained by The North Carolina Beat, Bowman can be seen pushing Blount’s daughter as she tells her to “get down” from a table she was wiping off. In another video, the teacher can be seen forcefully grabbing Blount’s daughter’s arm and seemlingly threatening remarks with a malicious tone.
Blount visited Stough Elementary School on Tuesday, December 5, and had a conversation with Jodi Lay, the school’s principal.
“She told me that she claimed she didn’t know anything about the incident,” Blount said. “She offered me to change my daughter’s class and provided me with Griffith’s number, which I already had, so I could see the video.”
After emailing Griffith and receiving no response, Blount called him on Wednesday to follow up. Griffith denied her request for copies of the video but offered to let her watch them.
However, on Thursday night, Blount received the videos from an anonymous source.

Blount expressed her disgust to The North Carolina Beat, stating that she firmly believed this was not the first time Bowman had laid hands on her child.
