Memphis’s Acting Police Chief C.J. Davis has sadly confirmed the loss of two lives and injuries to 14 individuals at a lively block party near 2400 Carnes Ave. on a Saturday evening, as reported by Fox 13.
In a distressing turn of events, five individuals were discovered with gunshot wounds at the location. Two males died at the scene and three of them were rushed to the hospital. 11 others arrived at medical facilities in private vehicles, as per the outlet’s information.
Chief Davis said the block party was being held without a permit and that 200-300 people were in attendance.Â
Videos captured by onlookers depicted a chaotic scene at the Orange Mound Community Center, with numerous gunshots ringing out as attendees scrambled for safety.
Law enforcement swiftly secured multiple crime scenes in the vicinity of Carnes Ave. and Grand St. to investigate the shooting.
The chief disclosed that they suspect at least two individuals were responsible for firing shots, and as the clock struck 10:00 p.m., no suspects had been apprehended.
