UNC Coach Armond Hawkins Suspended For Handing Out Extra Tickets

UNC Coach Suspended

UNC Coach Suspended amid allegations of giving out unauthorized tickets and sideline passes, potentially violating NCAA rules.

The University of North Carolina football program is back in the headlines—and not for a winning season. Cornerbacks coach Armond Hawkins has been suspended after allegations surfaced that he handed out extra tickets and sideline passes to a player’s family, possibly violating NCAA rules.

According to reports from The Athletic, Hawkins allegedly hooked up a player’s relatives with field access during a recent home game—going way beyond what’s allowed under NCAA guidelines.

But that’s not all. UNC investigators are also digging into a bigger problem: some players allegedly selling or trading their complimentary tickets for cash or perks. That’s a major no-no under NCAA rules, and it could get the whole program in trouble.

The NCAA doesn’t play when it comes to “extra benefits.” Student-athletes can receive complimentary tickets—but they can’t resell them, trade them, or use them to make a quick come-up.

Sideline passes are another story. Giving family members special access can easily fall under the “impermissible benefits” category if not cleared through compliance.

This mess couldn’t have come at a worse time for Chapel Hill. It’s Bill Belichick’s first season as head coach—a hire that was supposed to elevate UNC football’s image and performance.

  1. It’s disappointing to see a coach suspended over something like this. It seems like a harsh penalty for giving out extra tickets. I hope the situation gets resolved soon!
