Tory Lanez, a Canadian rapper, was sentenced to ten years in prison by a California judge for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
Judge David Herriford issued his decision on Tuesday.
In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic weapon, possession of a loaded, illegal firearm in a motor vehicle, and careless use of a firearm in the July 2020 shooting.
Judge Herriford stated that it was “difficult to reconcile” Lanez’s character as a kind, charitable, and good father, as many people described him during the sentencing hearing, with the person who fired the gun at Megan.
Sometimes good people do bad things, Hereford said. Actions have consequences and there are no winners in this case.
In her impact statement Monday, Megan told the courts that “since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she said. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
