Three Kid City Daycare Employees Arrested for Assaulting 3-Year-Old on His First Day

Authorities have charged three employees of Kid City Daycare in Thomasville, N.C., with allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old child on his first day at the facility.

The investigation began on Feb. 10, 2025, when Chasity Small reported to the Thomasville Police Department that her son, Lukah, returned home from his first day at Kid City Daycare with visible injuries, including bruises and a bloody shirt. When investigators visited Kid City Daycare on Feb. 11, they encountered troubling inconsistencies in the facility’s claims. The daycare’s owner and staff members initially stated that they had installed surveillance cameras throughout the facility.

However, they later claimed that the cameras were not recording at the time of the alleged incident. This discrepancy led law enforcement officers to execute a search warrant, seizing the daycare’s DVR recording device for further examination.

State Authorities Shut Down Kid City Daycare

After a detailed review of the retrieved video footage, detectives collaborated with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Their findings were deemed so severe that NCDHHS took emergency action, leading to the immediate closure of Kid City Daycare. The shutdown aimed to protect other children enrolled in the facility from potential harm.

Following the investigation, authorities arrested three individuals associated with Kid City Daycare on Feb. 26, 2025:

  • Faye Burchett, 79 – Owner of Kid City Daycare

All three face misdemeanor child abuse, assault on a child under 12, felonious obstruction of justice charges. They were booked into the Davidson County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Small, the child’s mother, has been vocal about her determination to seek justice for her son and other affected children.

“I want justice not just for my son, but for the past kids, for the kids that I saved.”

The Thomasville Police Department continues to collaborate with the NCDHHS and the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities have urged anyone with additional information related to this case—or any other potential incidents at Kid City Daycare—to come forward.

  1. Three old people jumped a three year old? Yes, they need to start an immediate investigation into past abuses. A 79 and 60 year doesn’t just decide to start hitting kids at that ancient age. Can’t be the first time something like this happened. What can a 3 year old do to make you respond physically? You don’t deserve to be near children, ever. You don’t have enough self-control and emotional intelligence. I wish the feds/states would provide more funds to open up more good daycare centers. It is an important foundation to a better society.

  2. My name is Mary McFarlin, I live in South Carolina , yes I have an grand that lives in Charlotte, N .C. She’s of age, so I’m not too wronged about her safety. But that’s one if the main reasons I didn’t sent my kids or grandkids to Daycares @ an early age, these kids have to know how to speak and tslk so they can let you know what’s going on with them at these homemade daycare centers. Before a problem occurs, I’ll just keep mines @. Home
