The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Sulaimane “Sulay” Alhaji Bangura—a 26-year-old Liberian-born law student who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on July 8 in Wake County.

Sulay was just one semester away from graduating and had already begun making his mark in the legal field as a legal intern with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts. His academic grind was unmatched—and before law school, he was also a decorated student-athlete at Emmanuel University, where he earned All-American honors.
University Chancellor Karrie Dixon called him a “rising third-year law student” known for his intellect, dedication, and warm spirit.

What Happened
The fatal accident occurred near the intersection of Creedmoor Road and Mount Vernon Church Road, a spot that witnesses say has been dangerous for years. Now, his devastated family and loved ones are working to raise funds to send his body back to Sierra Leone—the land he loved and called home.

GoFundMe: “Bring Sulay Home for His Final Rest”
Sulay’s close friend Aaron Konneh launched a GoFundMe with a goal of $35,000 to cover funeral and international repatriation costs. As of Tuesday, over $30,000 has already been raised—but there’s still a ways to go.
