ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. – Robeson County deputies just hit Cheyenne Woods, 36, of Red Springs, with even more charges in what the sheriff is calling a flat-out senseless act that left an innocent woman dead.
Woods was arrested Saturday, and authorities say his rap sheet from this one incident alone is already long.
According to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was initially charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, felony assault on EMS personnel, and eight counts of firing a gun into occupied property.
But on Sunday, deputies piled on additional charges, including:
-
Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
-
Malicious conduct of a prisoner (for allegedly throwing bodily fluids)
-
Robbery with a dangerous weapon
-
Second-degree kidnapping
Sheriff’s officials say the chaos kicked off Saturday when EMS crews were called to Chavis Road in the Maxton area for a medical emergency. Instead of a routine call, investigators say Woods pulled a gun on two EMS workers, then stole the ambulance and took off.

Moments later, Woods allegedly crashed the ambulance into another vehicle. Authorities say he then exited the stolen ambulance, walked up to the other car, and shot 74-year-old Marie Locklear of Red Springs.
Locklear later died from her injuries.

The sheriff’s office has described her as an “innocent” victim, emphasizing that she had nothing to do with the chaos that unfolded.
Woods remains in custody as the investigation continues. Deputies say more details could be released as the case moves through the court system.
