Southport mass shooting suspect Nigel Max Edge charged with 13 felonies including first-degree murder and attempted murder
A 40-year-old man from Oak Island, North Carolina, has been arrested and charged in connection to a mass shooting that left three people dead and eight others injured late Saturday night at the American Fish Company in Southport, NC.
The peaceful coastal night turned deadly when a gunman opened fire from a boat parked in the Southport Yacht Basin, targeting a crowd of patrons at the popular dockside bar.
According to the State Port Pilot, the shooter may have been positioned in the water for nearly an hour before firing, and then fled via the Intracoastal Waterway toward Oak Island.
According to court documents obtained by The North Carolina Beat, the suspect, Nigel Max Edge, faces:

5 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury
Warrants alleged that Edge used a short-barrel AR-style rifle with a suppressor, folding stock, and scope during the attack.
He is currently being held without bond at the Brunswick County Jail.
During a press conference Sunday morning, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring said they believe the shooting was targeted and that Edge acted alone. The chief also stated that additional charges are pending and that they do not believe there are any further threats at this time.
Emergency crews responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m., where three victims were pronounced dead on-site.
City officials issued an emergency alert advising residents to shelter in place, while multiple agencies responded to secure the scene and track the fleeing suspect. In a late-night update, the city of Southport said:
The U.S. Coast Guard observed a single individual matching the description of the shooter, loading their boat at the public boat ramp at NE 55th Street in Oak Island. The Coast Guard crew detained this suspect.
Warrants list Edge’s residence on NW 10th Street in Oak Island. A 2025 Google image of the property shows a boat in the driveway with the words “Game On” written near the bow.
Another photo taken during the Southport shooting surfacing online appears to show the same vessel near the American Fish Company, raising suspicions that Edge may have used his personal boat to carry out the attack.
Court records reveal that in November 2023, Edge legally changed his name from Sean William Debevoise to Nigel Max Edge. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Edge is described as a former Marine who deployed to Iraq in 2006, where he reportedly suffered traumatic brain injuries.
According to court filings, he was “separated from service with 100% disability” after sustaining multiple combat-related injuries.
In a statement Sunday morning, Governor Josh Stein said he was heartbroken by the tragedy last night.

Sad! Prayers out to the families and friends of those killed and wounded! Prayer for the Marine, that GOD would have mercy on his soul. I am a 100% disabled veteran , I have had good care at the VA I attend and some not so good. There are many in the VA who do care to help us and others, not so much. It is good that there are resources outside of the VA like the DAV to help we veterans to navigate the system. This is tragic!

The VA is a corrupt seperate Government agency. No mater who is incharge there will be change. The VA spends more money on the employees and protecting employees than the veterans. VA is socialism medical system, with most doctors that are hiding from public, or medical malpractice, or from Forin countries. It’s time to shut down the VA and give free pass to any medical service.
So you are saying you would like socialized medicine in the form of the government giving money to veterans to go to any doctor that accepts the government’s passes? Sounds good to me, many universal healthcare systems work that way in other democratic socialist countries in Europe and it’s great for everybody.
Oh yeah, like my friend in Ireland ( national healthcare) who desperately needed a hip replacement, she got an appointment for a consultation almost 3 YEARS out😑she was forced by necessity to pay for private insurance and was then given an appointment 8 weeks out🤔she was told to bring someone to the hospital to care for her after surgery as there is a critical shortage of nurses and doctors since under national healthcare they pay them very poorly so her niece ( no medical background) went with her and cared for her, so to review she ended up paying for private healthcare anyway, unbelievable that you want that for us, Thanks 😡

Not my experience at all. I have never received better medical care than I currently receive at my VA medical center.

This country chews them up, spits them out, and don’t care at all about them after they’ve been used.
Because their is no program to de transition from being trained to solve problems by combat. You go through a few weeks of bayonet rifle training learning every move to stick, slash, smash and buttstroke. You spend years after perfecting the art of combat. Then your time ends and you are simply discharged. The VA is a damn fraud, there is little help for you. The voters care about everything else first as a priority and only remember veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and even then the one’s doing the actual honors and putting on the ceremonies and marches are ….veterans. Civilians don’t care about veterans until they snap and then ask, what went wrong?
