Deontay Jay Lynch, a 29-year-old tax accountant for The Hultquist Firm in Greenville, South Carolina, was discovered deceased at the Days Inn and Suites on Roper Mountain Road.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in the murder of 29-year-old Deontay Jay Lynch, a tax accountant from Spartanburg, South Carolina, known as D.J. Lynch. Late Friday night and early Saturday morning, Lynch’s family turned to social media to ask the public for help in locating him when he did not return home from work. His mother-in-law stated that he had been missing since 3:30 p.m., which was his last contact with his wife, Da’Myra Lynch.
On Monday, investigators announced that they had made two arrests in connection with the murder of Deontay. 21-year-old Joeanna Isabela Badger and 20-year-old Devonte Tyrese Orr were arrested in Jasper County, which is more than 3 hours away from the murder scene.
It is unclear why Deontay was at the hotel, but according to Fox Carolina, the suspects were visiting him at the Days Inn & Suites when they allegedly shot him to death. Both suspects have been charged with murder, burglary, and conspiracy. Additionally, police said Orr is charged with possessing a firearm during a violent crime.
According to an obituary for Deontay, he was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, earned a master’s degree in accounting from Clemson University, and worked as a tax accountant for the mentioned firm. His obituary read that he “loved God with all of his heart” and “spent quality time reading his Bible and praying.”
Deontay was a coach of the YMCA basketball team that his daughter was a member of, and he was a source of inspiration and motivation to many, as stated in the obituary. He was also a blogger and social media influencer with a podcast called “Dad Big Thinker.”
He loved his wife, Da’Myra, and their two children, Kais Michael-Sade Lynch and Iris Summer Lynch, who he leaves behind.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
