At a press conference near the crime scene, Chief Patterson confirmed that the shooting was not random. According to the Chief, a male suspect entered Coquette, shot a man, then turned the gun on himself before an innocent was struck.

The suspect is currently in critical condition, and the bystander is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Investigation and Road Closures

Dozens of officers were seen near the 4300 block of The Circle at North Hills Street before 11 a.m. Additionally, Six Forks Road and surrounding streets remain closed. Raleigh police are expected to provide an update on the situation at 12:40 p.m. EST.

Schools Return to Code Green

As a precaution earlier in the day, five local schools—Brooks Elementary, Douglas Magnet Elementary, Carroll Middle School, Root Elementary, and Green Magnet Elementary—were placed on lockdown. Police have since confirmed that the schools are now back to Code Green status, meaning normal operations have resumed.
