A woman from Raleigh, North Carolina, who gained attention in March for a viral incident where a scammer noticed her feeding her seven children, has recently been charged with child abuse.
Andrea Marie Rogers, 28, was arrested on April 23, 2024, and is facing misdemeanor child abuse charges from May 2023, as confirmed by Wake County Jail officials. The Raleigh Police Department is being contacted by The North Carolina Beat for further information regarding the accusations against Rogers.
In a widely shared post on March 17, a scammer posing as ‘Rands Rental’ took a photo of Rogers feeding her children on New Bern Avenue by Bojangles. The post said that Rogers needed clothing and toiletries and offered to accommodate her at an economy lodge for a few nights. The post quickly went viral, attracting significant attention and support from people worldwide who offered donations and assistance to Rogers and her seven children.
Rogers reportedly received substantial donations through her Cash App, went on a grocery shopping spree to purchase food for her family. While it is unclear how Rogers utilized the thousands of dollars sent to her, there are now concerns and suspicions arising due to the recent child abuse allegations.
Rogers is no longer in custody. Her next court date is set for May 14, 2024.
