A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employee at Raleigh-Durham International Airport was apprehended in Florida recently for his involvement in a child sex sting operation. The individual, identified as Edmundo Dasilva, a 37-year-old resident of Holly Springs, faces several serious charges, such as human trafficking, solicitation of a guardian via computer, traveling to meet a minor, and using a communication device for criminal activities.
Raleigh-Durham International Airport TSA worker responded to an ad, according to Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said they were able to apprehend Dasilva through a social media ad they posted. The TSA worker is accused of communicating with an adult whom he believed had access to a child and expressing a desire to pay $60 to perform sexual acts on the child.
According to Florida authorities, Dasilva agreed to meet with the undercover detective and was immediately arrested. Detectives said he told them that he was married and worked as a transportation security officer.
During a press conference, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd was critical of the government.
“This is who the federal government trusts to screen you,” Judd said. “[It] makes you wonder when they want to do extra screening in children, doesn’t it?”
Sheriff Judd mentioned that Dasilva claimed he believed he was compensating a father for his daughter’s services. Dasilva informed investigators that he was in Florida to celebrate a birthday party, but unfortunately, he was detained before he could attend, as per Sheriff Judd.
“We saved children from being victims, because if he hadn’t hit on our ad, he might’ve hit on another ad for a real child,” Judd said.
Dasilva and seven other individuals were apprehended as part of an 8-day undercover operation conducted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to combat child sex predators from February 22 to February 29.
