Raleigh Cop QUITS After Pulling Knife On Disabled Man

A 37-year-old Raleigh cop sergeant, Wesley Adam Lane, has officially resigned after being charged with threatening a man with disabilities at a Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse.

What Went Down

The wild incident happened on June 25 inside Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse in Dunn, where Lane allegedly approached a man with epilepsy, autism, and an intellectual learning disability, accusing him of touching his daughter. What Lane reportedly did next is what got him arrested…

According to the Dunn Police Department, Lane pulled out a knife, held it toward the victim, and threatened to “cut his throat.”

Lane was arrested on July 2 and hit with misdemeanor charges, including:

  • Assault on an individual with a disability

  • Communicating threats

Witnesses and surveillance footage helped Dunn PD piece together what happened. However, officials say there’s no confirmed evidence that the victim touched Lane’s daughter at all. In other words… the proof ain’t proofing.

Resignation From Raleigh PD

While the heat was rising, Lane dipped. He officially resigned on July 7 amid an internal investigation by the Raleigh Police Department. The department released a short statement saying the criminal side of things is now in Dunn PD’s hands, and they won’t say more due to personnel laws. Lane had been on the force since August 2010.

Ongoing Investigation

Dunn PD says they’re keeping it professional regardless of Lane’s status as a cop, stating that “no one is above the law.” Surveillance video and witness accounts were key to building the case.

Lane is due back in court in August. His attorney, Lee Turner, is already defending the former officer, saying there’s more to the story and that “future evidence will tell a different tale.”
