Emergency officials were notified around 9:30 p.m. about the fire after witnesses reported flames shooting from the roof of the building as smoke was visible across downtown in several areas.
About 50 firefighters were sent to the scene to get the blaze under control. While no events were taking place inside the Convention Center, security personnel were in the building at the time. Authorities said they all evacuated without injury.
Investigators are now working to pinpoint the exact cause behind the natural gas issue. No injuries have been reported, and the building remained secure following the evacuation.
This is a developing story…
