A female barber in North Carolina, at Game Time Barbershop in Raeford, had a pistol pointed at her head by the owner’s angry boyfriend after she was kicked out for failing to pay booth rent and is now facing charges for assault.
Last Wednesday, Cheyann Marie Vega told The North Carolina Beat that she is the woman whom Edgar Rivera, known as ‘Miko’ was attacking in the video recorded behind Game Time Barbershop on Sunday afternoon, October 13, 2024. She told us that Rivera had texted her, telling her to come and retrieve her belongings from the shop because she had not paid her booth rent.
According to Cheyann, she had been at Game Time Barbershop for what she described as a “little bit.” She mentioned that she spoke with the owner, Jennifer Allums, who told her that she could return to work at the shop if she agreed to pay a commission of 30% on every haircut she performed.
“So, I was paying her commission for about a week, and then another week, I didn’t pay booth rent, so Miko ended up coming to the shop, and we had a conversation,” Cheyann explained.
The two had a conversation, during which Cheyann stated that she agreed to pay the money she owed. Although Cheyann did not specify when she and Rivera first discussed her failure to pay booth rent, she mentioned that on Sunday, October 13, 2024, he sent her a text message telling her to come to the shop for a conversation.
“I said, ‘Hey, I already left. I’m in Fayetteville, so I’m not gonna be able to come back.’ Then he said ‘Well, I’m not on your time; you’re on my time.’
Cheyann said that in the text message, Rivera sent her a photo of her clippers in a box. She mentioned that when she arrived, she saw her clippers outside the back of the barbershop. Upon entering, Cheyann said that she was upset and used profanity, but did not say anything that would make Rivera assaulted her.
“I go in the shop and get the rest of my stuff, and I’m walking out cursing and yelling and putting my shit in the car. I turned around, shut the car door, and the next thing I knew, he comes up from behind, and the rest is on video,” Cheyanne explained.
Game Time Barbershop owner’s boyfriend assault woman with a pistol
In the 1 minute and 8 second video, Edgar Rivera, wearing a red shirt, black pants, and a hat, is seen repeatedly punching Cheyann in the head as she attempts to protect herself from the violent assault. We counted at least five punches delivered by Rivera before he was pulled away by another man in a white shirt.
As Cheyann gets up, the owner of Game Time Barbershop, Jennifer, dressed in all black, can be seen walking into the camera’s view but she turns around and goes back to the door, as Cheyann is being assaulted.
As Cheyann approaches Rivera, he throws another punch at her. Cheyann is then seen walking away while Rivera pulls a pistol from the back of his waistband and points it at her head.
While Rivera holds the pistol to Cheyann’s head, she slaps the gun away from her face. To which Rivera grabs her neck and pins her against her car while continuing to point the gun at her. Cheyanne was then seen grabbing Rivera’s neck and swinging at him while he continued to point his gun at her, assuming that that he was threatening to kill her.
After Cheyann points to her girlfriend recording, Rivera pushes her away and walks back inside with Jennifer.

Cheyann has been charged with assault, while Rivera faces no charges
Cheyann stated that when the police arrived, they took Rivera’s account and then her own. She mentioned that she showed the Hoke County Deputy the video but the deputy decided against filing any charges.
“He came back and said, ‘Alright, I’m not going to place anybody under arrest. I’m going to make a statement, and I suggest y’all both go down to the magistrate’s office and take out charges’, Cheyann recounted.
She stated that the deputy told her the magistrate’s office would not open until 10 a.m. the following morning. Cheyann mentioned that once she was discharged from the hospital, she went to the magistrate’s office, where she was told that there was a warrant for her arrest and that she needed to turn herself in before she could proceed with any further actions.
According to Cheyann, she was charged with two counts of simple assault, injury to personal property, and communicating threats.
Game Time Barbershop owner defends her boyfriend who violently attacked female barber
Jennifer Marie Allums, the owner of the barbershop located on Great Lane in Raeford, defended her boyfriend when we spoke to her about the incident.
During our conversation, Allums reiterated what Cheyann had told us regarding the booth rent situation. She claims that before the incident escalated, she called 911 at least five times because “they” knew things were going to escalate due to Cheyann’s past.
Rivera had previously informed Cheyann that if she did not pay the booth rent or if there were any customer complaints, she would have to leave the shop, according to Jennifer.
“Miko (Rivera) was like, ‘if you don’t pay or if we have any issues like customer complaints or anything, then you’re going to have to leave,'” Jennifer said.
She also admitted that Rivera placed Cheyann’s clippers outside the back of the barbershop.
“We told her…we told her… that she needed to come get her things and she didn’t want to come get her things and we waited for her,” she explained. “We put her things outside because we didn’t want her to come inside and hurt our things—mine, Miko’s, or anyone else’s.
Specifically in response to the video, Jennifer took up for Rivera’s decision to pull a gun on Cheyann, claiming that she had pushed him before the video began, but she failed to provide any evidence to support this assertion. She also alleged that Cheyann had spit on her boyfriend, yet again, she did not offer any proof to substantiate her claims. Nevertheless, she continued to elaborate.
“When someone pushes you multiple times and then spits on you, are you supposed to completely ignore that? And what about when they threaten you and your pregnant wife?” Jennifer asked.
Jennifer also stated that Rivera drew his gun on Cheyann because she threatened to shoot him; however, at the time of the incident, it appears that Cheyann was unarmed. She further asserted that Rivera had every right to draw his weapon in response to Cheyann’s threat, claiming that it’s legal to do in North Carolina.
“If someone threatens to shoot you in the state of North Carolina, you are allowed to pull out a gun, “Jennifer stated. “It’s self-defense.”
She also confirmed that Rivera had filed criminal charges against Cheyann but those charges have not yet been served.
The North Carolina Beat has contacted the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office for more information about the incident.
It looks like cheyann was about to pull that fire on Rivera but he was a little quicker than that lol she should’ve paid the rent or left tbh
This is sad asf. Cheyann has evidence and the police overlook it. Hoke Co is full of ish. And I bet the officer told Rivas
Rivera to beat her to taking out charges. Crooked ash. I pray she gets justice.
“Edgar Rivera” needs to be locked up forever. I won’t say more because I know they won’t publish it but he needs to stop hitting women.
Sooo…men just out here punching on and pulling guns out on women, huh!?! And, to top it off, the woman was charged with assault. Wow
