A deadly shooting outside Quiet Corner sports bar in Winston-Salem left a 34-year-old father dead, as growing questions surround the alleged shooter’s reported ties to the bar’s owner and the circumstances leading up
Winston-Salem, N.C — A father was shot and killed early Sunday morning — with many pointing fingers at what they’re calling “janky security.”
According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, officers responded around 4:18 a.m. to a shooting in the 2800 block of Indiana Avenue, right outside the Quiet Corner, a sports bar located at 2805 Indiana Ave.

When police arrived, they found 34-year-old Calvin Samuel Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t make it.

Sources tell The North Carolina Beat that the alleged shooter was not just security — but a relative of the bar’s owner, Edward Fulks. That detail alone has people all over Winston-Salem questioning how this situation was even allowed to happen.
On Monday, Fulks took to social media with a public apology. In his post, he wrote:
“My heart is heavy as I write this. I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones… This is something I never wanted to happen, and I am truly sorry for the pain and loss you are experiencing.”
He went on to warn about “false narratives and misinformation,” urging the community to “seek truth, show grace, and avoid adding to the hurt,” and closed by calling for unity and healing in Winston-Salem.
But for many in the community, that message didn’t land the way it was intended.
Instead, folks are calling it BS and not an apology.

As of now, police have not released full details about what led up to the shooting.
