A Onslow County road rage murder began with a heated argument that ended when a Marine was shot during a highway confrontation.
According to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Burgaw Highway and Holly Shelter Road. Deputies arrived to find 31-year-old Dylan Rasmussen suffering from a gunshot wound.
Rasmussen was rushed to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities say 43-year-old James Wells, of Maple Hill, was later identified and arrested.
WHAT HAPPENED ON BURGAW HIGHWAY
Court documents allege that Wells was driving along the highway when he stopped and got into an argument with Rasmussen, who was riding a motorcycle. During that argument, investigators say Wells pulled out a gun and shot Rasmussen once in the chest.
Wells appeared before a District Court judge Monday morning, where his bond was set at $500,000.
A GoFundMe page created for Rasmussen’s family says he was a United States Marine and a devoted father to his two young sons.

So sad that a US Marine gets murdered on American soil. This young man was serving and defending our country when another American took his life. This young man stood for freedom. Wells had freedom because of our military. Wells freedom should now be taken away for the rest of his life!!
This has got to stop!!! Road rage is out of control and something has to be done. I lost my son in January of this year from a road rage incident. This is happening all the time. Yet nothing is being done to change it.

Just horrible. Hope Wells gets the maximum punishment for such a heartless, cruel and idiotic act! Pray he asks forgiveness from his Maker. A disgusting act, but his Heavenly Father still loves him. Praying for the wife and boys left without a husband and a dad.
