North Carolina mom arrested in Connecticut after her 2-year-old daughter died from blunt force trauma in Bertie County, officials say.
A North Carolina mother is behind bars after cops in Connecticut arrested her for allegedly murdering her 2-year-old daughter in Bertie County last year — and y’all, the details are beyond disturbing.
28-year-old Raja Drain had been laying low in Wethersfield, Connecticut, living with family — but her past caught up with her Monday evening. According to WFSB.com, Wethersfield Police responded to a domestic call at a home around 6:20 p.m.
When they ran Raja’s name — a murder warrant from North Carolina popped up. She had been indicted Monday on murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury charges.
What Happened to 2-Year-Old Jamie Drain?
At a press conference Tuesday, Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin confirmed what many feared — “Jamie Drain died at the hands of her mother.”
Court documents say it happened on December 2, 2024, at a home on Jack Branch Road near Lewiston Woodville. According to the autopsy report, Jamie died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Raja told investigators she was cooking in the kitchen while her daughter was playing. The report says, “The decedent was standing in the kitchen eating when the mother heard a thud.” Raja claimed she turned around and found her daughter face-down after hitting her forehead.
But the injuries told another story — one that got Raja hit with murder.
BeatMob, what makes this even worse is that Jamie had already been in DSS custody before. But she had been returned back to her mother following a child abuse case.
The autopsy report stated that Jamie had “extensive head trauma with scalp contusions, facial contusions, and hemispheric acute subdural hemorrhage with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage.”
Police said Raja was the only adult home at the time and that no other child could have caused the injuries.
Raja Drain Held on $2M Bond — Awaiting Extradition
As of now, Raja Drain is being held on a $2 million bond in Connecticut and is awaiting extradition back to North Carolina to face these charges.
