Corporal Sage Simmons, a Marine stationed at New River, has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly running over his wife, Jaide Simmons, on Thursday, March 6.

Authorities issued warrants for the 25-year-old Marine on Tuesday, March 11, adding charges of careless and reckless driving. According to the Jacksonville Police Department, Simmons was reversing a Ford Focus in the parking lot of Charleston Place Apartments just before 10 p.m. when he struck his 23-year-old wife and a parked Buick sedan.

The circumstances leading to the fatal incident remain unclear. However, in a social media post from February, Jaide publicly defended her husband against racial criticism. She mentioned that he was of Puerto Rican and Black descent and expressed frustration with those judging him based on his skin color.
“I’VE HAD BLACK MEN TREAT ME LIKE SH*T AND USE ME BUT THAT DIDN’T STOP ME FROM FINDING A MAN THAT TREATS ME LIKE HIS WHOLE WORLD,” Jaide wrote in her post.
She continued, emphasizing her love and loyalty to Sage, stating, “This man right here is my husband, is my person, is the one I will fight everyday for.”

Sage, originally from New York, serves as an automotive maintenance technician in the Marines. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2020.
He is currently being held at the Onslow County Jail on a $2 million bond.
