North Carolina man arrested for incest
A man in Bertie County, North Carolina, has been arrested and charged with sex crimes against a minor, including attempted sex acts by a parent or custodian.
Letron Sumner charged with sex crimes against a minor
On Tuesday, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest and charging of 40-year-old Letron Sumner of Aulander. He faces three counts of statutory rape of a child under 15, three counts of incest, two counts of attempted sexual acts by a parent/custodian, and one count of disseminating obscenity to minors.
8-month long investigation into allegations against Letron Sumner
The investigation began in April after the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Tyrell County Department of Social Services regarding inappropriate sexual acts involving a minor.
Upon reviewing the initial report, investigators conducted interviews and then followed up with the TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center located in Greenville.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin stated that it was discovered that between 2019 and 2020, Sumner inappropriately engaged in sexual activity with minors. At the time of the incidents, officials stated that Sumner and the victims resided in the Lewiston/Woodville area.
Sumner was indicted by a grand jury on December 8.
He remains in jail with no bond.
