NASH COUNTY, NC — Authorities say 46-year-old Amanda Wiersma was arrested after deputies discovered a disturbing scene inside her residence on the 6000 block of Hornes Road.

After receiving repeated complaints about possible animal neglect, deputies went to the property on Wednesday, December 3, where they made contact with Wiersma and a 17-year-old who had been residing inside the home.

What they reportedly found was nothing short of horrific.

According to arrest warrants, deputies discovered four dead ducks, no running water, and animal feces and urine scattered throughout the home. Investigators say the living conditions were so severe that the teen was immediately transported to the hospital for evaluation before being placed into Child Protective Services custody.
