On Saturday evening, law enforcement apprehended 44-year-old Anthony Garner from Albemarle, North Carolina, on charges of the murder of 31-year-old Cedrick Keaunte Reddick, following a shooting incident on Ocean Boulevard.
In a GoFundMe campaign for Garner, his family is seeking assistance from the community to raise $15,000, asserting that Garner acted in self-defense to protect his family. However, police warrants obtained by local media suggest that Reddick was attempting to de-escalate a confrontation between Garner and “an associate” of Reddick.
According to the warrants, authorities responded to the shooting incident at 23rd Avenue North, where an investigation revealed a verbal dispute between Garner and an individual described as “an associate” of Reddick, stemming from a road rage altercation.
On Sunday, Mayor Brenda Bethune of Myrtle Beach characterized the incident as a parking dispute.
According to police warrants, the shooting began when Garner was struck in the face by the “associate”. Despite Reddick’s attempt to de-escalate the situation, the argument persisted and intensified. The warrants indicate that Garner retrieved his firearm from the center console and fatally shot Reddick.
A GoFundMe campaign established by Garner’s family, which has garnered 44 donations totaling $2,110 as of the time of this report, states that Anthony Garner, his daughter Nubia Garner, and his wife, Ashley Garner, were all present in the vehicle with Nubia at the wheel.
The GoFundMe account further recounts that Nubia allowed a car to merge in front of them as the car exited a hotel parking lot, but when another vehicle attempted to cut in, they did not yield.
Allegedly, the driver of the second car initiated an argument, during which Anthony claimed he was struck in the face with a loaded pistol before he could roll up his car window.
In self-defense, Anthony shot, according to the family’s GoFundMe.
Garner is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
He is currently in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center as of Tuesday.
I always said that the truth would prevail, so explain to me again how they’re saying self defense when all he did was try to prevent an argument.
