The search for 26-year-old father Laequan Little, who went missing on December 31, 2024, has come to a tragic end. His body was discovered in a retention pond at the Reserve at Bridford Apartments in Greensboro on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The recovery effort, carried out by the Guilford County Dive Team and Greensboro Police Department (GPD), began early Monday morning and concluded with the retrieval of both Little’s body and the vehicle he was last seen driving.
Body Recovered After Family’s Concerns Dismissed
The pond where Little was found is located in the 1400 block of Bridford Parkway. According to past reporting, Little’s mother, Tamika, had tracked his phone to the apartment complex shortly after his disappearance. However, she was unable to access the gated property or secure a search of the pond when she raised concerns.
“I went home not thinking the worst,” Tamika said, recounting her initial reaction to his absence.
Tamika said she grew increasingly concerned after receiving messages from Little’s child’s mother on New Year’s Day, asking if she had heard from him. Initially reassured by her son’s tendency to occasionally go silent for a few hours, she began to worry when repeated calls and texts went unanswered.
“It’s been 24 hours, and I haven’t talked to my son. He wouldn’t just leave his daughter like this,” Tamika told The North Carolina Beat.
Family’s Determined Search
After failing to locate Little herself, Tamika returned to the Reserve at Bridford Apartments on January 1 but again found no clues. Later that evening, she filed a missing person’s report with the Greensboro Police Department.
Despite her persistence, the search for Little lasted nearly two weeks before his body and vehicle were discovered in the pond. Police and dive teams responded to the scene on Monday morning, confirming his identity later that day.
Ongoing Investigation
The Greensboro Police Department has not released further details about Little’s death, and the circumstances surrounding how his vehicle ended up in the retention pond remain under investigation.
The North Carolina Beat will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
