MINT HILL, N.C. – A violent Mint Hill shooting has left two police officers fighting for their lives Friday morning and a suspect dead.

According to the Mint Hill Police Department, officers were called to Edible Arrangements at 6832 Matthews–Mint Hill Road around 10:47 a.m. on December 26, 2025, to assist with a child custody exchange.

Police say the situation escalated quickly when a male subject pulled out a firearm during the interaction. Gunfire was exchanged, and two Mint Hill Police officers were struck in the shooting.





Both officers were rushed for emergency medical care and are currently listed in critical condition.

Suspect shot and killed at the scene

Authorities confirmed the suspect was also shot during the exchange and died at the scene. No additional suspects are believed to be involved at this time.

The incident triggered a large law enforcement response, shutting down Matthews–Mint Hill Road near the shopping center for hours as investigators secured the area.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional agencies are expected to assist as standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. Police have not released the identity of the suspect or officers involved.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether any civilians were injured during the incident.
