Kelli Marie Bryant, a so-called “mother,” has been arrested after allegedly abandoning her three children in a Pontiac, Michigan home, leaving them to live in squalor for four to five years.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at a home in the 600 block of Lydia Lane on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, after receiving a welfare check request. Inside the home, they found a 15-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old girl alone in absolute squalor.

Investigators say the two sisters were found locked in a bathroom, terrified and living in horrific conditions. Their 15-year-old brother revealed that their mother had abandoned them sometime between 2020 and 2021, leaving them to survive on a single weekly drop-off of prepared food from her or a stranger.
According to WXYZ Detroit, the children had not attended school since they were abandoned, spending their time watching TV or playing video games. The outlet also reported that the girls had not been outside for several years, with the boy sleeping on a mattress and the girls sleeping on pizza boxes. Their clothes were soiled, their hair was matted, and their toenails were so overgrown that they struggled to walk.
The home’s landlord told police they hadn’t heard from Bryant since December 2024 and that rent payments had stopped in October 2024. Meanwhile, neighbors told reporters they occasionally saw a woman dropping off supplies but never saw the children leave the house.
Bryant was arrested without incident at a separate location. Child Protective Services quickly intervened, placing the children with a relative.
