A Mecklenburg County Courthouse fight erupted when the father of slain teen Jamariyae Dixon came face-to-face with accused killer Marion McKnight.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emotions exploded inside the Mecklenburg County Courthouse earlier this week after the father of a murdered teen allegedly attacked the man accused of pulling the trigger — and the whole thing was caught on video.
According to footage circulating, the confrontation happened Thursday when Shaheem Snype, father of 16-year-old Jamariyae Dixon, came face-to-face with the teen’s accused killer, Marion McKnight, outside a courtroom.
And boy oh boy… it went left.
Video shows McKnight being repeatedly punched and kicked during the encounter. The accused was later transported to a hospital for treatment.
McKnight is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Jamariyae Dixon, along with two counts of attempted murder after two others were shot in the same incident, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Jamariyae was just 16 years old. An honor student. A son.
“HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO”
Dixon’s aunt, Susan Sherrill, told reporters the father simply snapped in a moment of overwhelming grief.
“He did what he had to do as a father. Any father would’ve did the same thing. We’re still grieving. This is a wound that will never ever close.”
Jamariyae’s mother, Lynnette Dixon, wasn’t inside the courthouse when the fight happened — but she saw the video afterward.
“My face smiled. I smiled. That was the first time I had a real smile since my son been gone.”
McKnight had been released on a $100,000 bond despite facing a first-degree murder charge.
The courthouse encounter happened ahead of a hearing tied to a prosecutor’s motion to revoke that bond. That hearing has now been rescheduled.
After the courthouse fight, Snype was charged with misdemeanor assault.
