In what can only be described as a disastrous legal retreat, former North Carolina Lieutenant Governor and failed 2024 GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has officially backed down from his defamation lawsuit against CNN.
Robinson, who filed the suit in October 2024, accused the news network of “election interference” and “shoddy reporting” after a bombshell report in September 2024 alleged that he had posted inflammatory comments under a frequently used alias on a p*********y website over a decade ago. Among the more eyebrow-raising claims was a post where Robinson allegedly referred to himself as a “black NAZI!”
Despite Robinsonโs attempts to discredit the report, the fallout was brutal. His campaign staffers jumped ship, and his legal team scrambled to push a far-fetched theory that a hacker had fabricated the posts and dumped them on the dark web.
After losing the November election, Robinsonโs case against CNN quickly unraveled. When the network filed for dismissal in federal court, its attorneys didnโt hold back, calling Robinsonโs hacking conspiracy theory “not just implausible, it is ridiculous.”
Robinson, who initially sought $50 million in damages before slashing that number to the North Carolina court limit of $25,000, is now left empty-handed, his credibility in shambles. The once-defiant candidate, who vowed to fight the allegations tooth and nail, has instead quietly bowed out, allowing CNN to walk away unscathed.
