ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina Beat has obtained the 911 call connected to the discovery of 14-year-old Lyric Woods and 18-year-old Devin Clark, the two North Carolina teens found dead in western Orange County Sunday afternoon.
According to law enforcement, two men riding four-wheelers told deputies they discovered the teens’ bodies while out putting out deer corn. Investigators say the bodies were located approximately 2½ miles from Lyric Woods’ home, near Buckhorn Road and Yarbrough Road.
However, Devin Clark’s mother, Tiffany Concepcion, disputes that account, telling The North Carolina Beat that both teens were found on Lyric Woods’ family property, not dumped elsewhere as initially suggested.
What’s Heard — and Not Heard — on the 911 Call
In the redacted 911 call (edited to protect the caller’s natural voice), the caller provides very limited details, telling the dispatcher he discovered two bodies on the side of the road near Buckhorn and Yarbrough Road.
The caller says he was riding his four-wheeler while putting out deer corn when he made the discovery. Instead of immediately calling 911 from the scene, the caller states that he left the area, went home to notify his father, and then called authorities. He tells dispatch that he will return to the scene and wait for law enforcement.
Notably, during the call:
-
The caller does not mention gunshot wounds
-
The caller suggests officers may need to respond “non-emergency”
-
Background audio appears to capture the number “14”, which some believe could be a reference to Lyric Woods’ age
These details have raised serious questions for many following the case, including why the scene was left, why the response was framed as non-emergency, and how much was known at the time of the call.
Teens Found After Being Missing for Two Days
Lyric Woods and Devin Clark were close friends and had both been reported missing on Friday. They were discovered deceased Sunday afternoon, sending shockwaves through Orange County and beyond.
Authorities later confirmed that a 17-year-old teenager has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killings.
As of publication, the suspect remains at large.
