Wife of Former Lenoir County Sheriff Busted With Drugs During Traffic Stop

Deputies say the wife of a former Lenoir County sheriff is facing serious drug trafficking charges after being caught with opium and other substances during a traffic stop.

Cynthia Carol Ingram, the wife of former Lenoir County sheriff Ronnie Ingram has been arrested after a traffic stop turned up more than just bad driving. She’s facing a laundry list of charges, including trafficking opium and driving while impaired, in a case that has the community talking.

Swerving and Suspected: How It Started

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of September 2 around 8:10 a.m., a deputy spotted Ingram’s vehicle swerving and crossing the center line while driving down Vernon Avenue in Kinston. That led to an immediate traffic stop.

But once deputies approached the car, they allegedly found drugs and paraphernalia.





The Charges

Ingram was slapped with the following charges:

  • Driving While Impaired (DWI)

  • Level 3 Trafficking in Opium

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

She’s currently booked at the Lenoir County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
