Leetwain Tate, known as “Ms. Sharon,” faces child sex crime charges in Charlotte after police say he lured multiple teen boys to his home.
A former Charlotte school bus driver is in deep trouble after police say he targeted young boys for sex acts and tried to lure them to his home with cash.
48-year-old Leetwain Darrell Tate, who also goes by the name “Ms. Sharon” or “Sharon,” was arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and charged with multiple child sex crimes, including statutory rape, statutory sex offense, and indecent liberties with a minor.
Tate had been driving buses for Sugar Creek Charter School, but was terminated after the investigation launched in September 2025.
According to CMPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit, the investigation began after a tip in mid-September 2025. At least four boys, all 14 or 15 years old, came forward with claims.
Tate is charged with 2 counts of raping a child under the age of 15, 1 count of statutory sex offense with a minor, and 6 counts of indecent liberties with a child.
One victim said Tate offered money for sex, according to investigators.
Police say none of the abuse happened on school property or while Tate was actively driving the bus. The alleged sex acts occurred inside Tate’s home, where multiple minors were reportedly staying.
Once Sugar Creek Charter School leaders were notified of the CMPD probe, they suspended and then fired him by September 29 or 30.
Tate was arrested September 30, 2025, and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on a $1 million bond.

In court, Tate appeared with a public defender and did not enter a plea. Law enforcement said digital evidence from phones and other devices supports the victims’ stories.
CMPD is urging any additional victims to come forward — no matter how long ago it happened.
