Sunset Beach comic shop owner Kathleen Lincoln charged with felony obscene literature after giving children an explicit comic at a police trunk-or-treat event.

A North Carolina woman is facing felony charges after police say she handed out an “inappropriate” comic book at a children’s Halloween event hosted by the Sunset Beach Police Department.

According to authorities, 59-year-old Kathleen Lincoln, owner of Marvelous Issues Comic Shop in Sunset Beach, was arrested and charged with felony obscene literature and exhibition following reports that she distributed an adult-themed comic book to children during the department’s annual Trunk-or-Treat event on October 30.

Sunset Beach police say several parents reported the disturbing find after their children returned home with comics that “contained explicit or inappropriate material.”

Lincoln was booked and later released on a $20,000 unsecured bond, which she posted on Friday afternoon, according to court records.

Police took to Facebook, emphasizing that “the safety and well-being of every child and family who attends our community events will always come first.” They added that Trunk-or-Treat has long been a trusted community tradition and that this year’s incident was “deeply disturbing.”

“We have always trusted that the registered participants would respect the safety and well-being of our children,” the department said in a public statement.

Police warrants state that Lincoln distributed a comic book containing images depicting men and women engaged in sexual acts to a 6-year-old child. Investigators are asking any families who attended the event and believe they received inappropriate material to contact the Sunset Beach Police Department immediately.
