Raleigh Man Jonathan Daniel Lee Charged With Murder After 24-Year-Old Found Dead Off New Bern Ave
A Raleigh man is behind bars after police say he’s responsible for the brutal death of 24-year-old William Hala, who was found critically injured early Tuesday morning off New Bern Avenue.
Arrest Made After Early Morning 911 Call
At approximately 4:09 a.m. on July 8, 2025, Raleigh Police received a welfare check call for a man down near Auston Grove Drive, located just off New Bern Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they found William Hala unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries.

Emergency responders rushed Hala to a nearby hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Suspect Identified As 29-Year-Old Jonathan Daniel Lee
Within hours of launching their investigation, Raleigh Police located and arrested 29-year-old Jonathan Daniel Lee in the vicinity. He has since been formally charged with murder and booked into the Wake County Detention Center.
At this time, authorities have not released details on the motive or how Lee and Hala may have known each other.
The case remains under active investigation, and detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.
