Security camera footage has captured the chilling moment when suspected terrorist Shamsud Din Jabbar barreled down a crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, killing at least 15 innocent people and injuring 35 others.
At Least Four Victims Identified in Bourbon Street New Year’s Day Attack
According to ABC News, a local congressman initially reported that the death toll had risen from 10 to 15. However, during a press conference on Wednesday, local authorities stated they could not confirm the 15 deaths. In a later update, the New Orleans Coroner’s Office confirmed that 15 people have now been confirmed dead.
Chilling video footage shows Jabbar’s white pickup truck, with Texas plates and an ISIS flag, inching through Canal Street traffic before making a sharp turn onto Bourbon Street.

Police said Din Jabbar was a 42-year-old U.S. citizen of Texas. An exclusive photo of Din Jabbar was obtained by the New York Post, shown below:
Authorities have confirmed that the truck, which appears to have been rented, is being examined to determine how Jabbar came into possession of it. An ISIS flag was found inside the truck. The FBI is investigating whether Jabbar has any potential connections or affiliations with the terrorist organization, though this remains under active investigation.
During a press conference on Wednesday, FBI Special Agent Alethea Duncan stated that they do not believe Jabbar acted alone and are actively searching for additional suspects.
The devastating attack happed at Bourbon and Iberville Streets around 3:15 a.m., according to reports from WDSU.
Authorities have confirmed the attack was “intentional.” Din Jabbar was killed by police after exiting the vehicle and engaging officers in gunfire. The New Orleans Police Department and the FBI are investigating the scary incident.
On Wednesday morning, Mayor LaToya Cantrell labeled the attack a “terrorist act” but an FBI agent, Althea Duncan, came behind the Mayor and denied the act as a terrorist act. Now, the FBI is officially calling the act an “act of terrorism.”
“This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others,” the FBI said in a statement.
“The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.”
Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick provided a grim description of the event, stating that Din Jabbar deliberately evaded barricades and accelerated into the crowd.
“This man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could,” Kirkpatrick said. “He was hellbent on creating the carnage that he did.”
In addition to the fatalities and injuries, two police officers were shot during the chaos. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.
Explosives Found at the Scene
The FBI’s involvement heightened after investigators discovered at least one suspected improvised explosive device near the scene. Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent with the FBI’s New Orleans field office, confirmed the finding but noted that its connection to the incident is still unclear.
The deadly scene has left residents and tourists in shock. Bourbon Street, a cornerstone of New Orleans culture and nightlife, is now marked by tragedy, bringing a somber start to 2025.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they piece together what led to this devastating attack.
