HIGH POINT, N.C. — The lights are officially going dark on Friday nights at High Point Central High School — at least for now.
School administrators have decided to suspend the Bison’s varsity football program for the 2026–27 season, following a brutal year on the field that left the team winless and scoreless, according to reporting confirmed by FOX8 WGHP.
High Point Central wrapped up the 2025 season with an 0–10 record, failing to score a single point all year. Opposing teams ran up the scoreboard to a staggering 523–0 combined margin, forcing a running clock in every game.
The Bison’s closest matchup still ended in a blowout — a 37–0 loss to Southwest Guilford, underscoring just how far the program had fallen.
High Point Central Football Suspended After 10–0 Season
Rather than pushing forward with another rough season, school leaders say they’re stepping back to regroup.
“We are taking a one-year pause and will be rebuilding with our junior varsity team,” — Principal Mike Hettenback told FOX8
Under the plan, High Point Central will only field a JV football team next season, with the goal of rebuilding the program from the ground up.
