Harnett County deputies investigate the murder of Erica McNeill on Amrie Lane.
A Harnett County man is behind bars after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, despite initially telling 911 dispatchers she had taken her own life.
Authorities say Rodney Jermaine Pipkin called 911 on Thursday to report that his ex-girlfriend, Erica Victoria McNeill, had shot herself.
When deputies arrived at a home on Amrie Lane, they discovered the 42-year-old woman dead inside her vehicle from a gunshot wound.
According to the sheriff’s office, Pipkin’s account of what happened didn’t add up. After further investigation, detectives determined that McNeill’s death was not self-inflicted.
Pipkin was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with McNeill’s death.
He is currently being held without bond.
