According to a Facebook post obtained by The North Carolina Beat, a man named John Dew, speaking on behalf of the family of the late Stephen Williams, made it clear that Pastor Maurice Davenport II, pastor of Greater Bazemore Temple, in Windsor, is not welcome at the upcoming funeral.

“Per the wishes of Stephen Williams’ mother and family, we must respectfully inform Maurice Davenport II of the request not to attend Stephen’s funeral services,” the Facebook post read.

Stephen Williams, a beloved Cosmetology Instructor at Beaufort County Community College, recently passed away. He was known for his talent and kind spirit.

Dew’s message revealed that Stephen once held Maurice in “very high regard”, but as time went on, their friendship faded.

But the real drama started on the day Stephen died.

John Dew dropped a bombshell when he alleged that Pastor Maurice Davenport entered Stephen’s apartment using a key—without the family’s knowledge or permission—and took over 40 pairs of Stephen’s shoes.

“Being a real friend, the mere thought of taking anything out of his apartment, especially without the family’s knowledge, should have been the least of our concern after his passing,” Dew said.

According to the post, Maurice claimed that Stephen asked him to give the shoes to his younger sister.

But the family wasn’t buying it.

“You claimed Stephen told you to give them to his young sister, yet there is no proof of this and no evidence that you attempted to call or text her beforehand,” Dew wrote. “In fact, you only contacted her once the post was made public that someone had stolen Stephen’s shoes.”

He added that Maurice only returned the shoes after Stephen’s sister went public and his mother directly spoke to him.

When The North Carolina Beat reached out to Pastor Maurice Davenport Friday afternoon, he denied the allegations.

When asked if he removed the shoes from Stephen’s apartment, he replied, “no.” Despite that, he said he will respect the family’s decision and not attend the service.

“I love everybody…his family, his mom, she’s wonderful, got a great son and he was just a great guy,” Maurice told The North Carolina Beat. “I don’t have anything negative to say, they are great people, I will respect their wishes.”

  1. I believe that the two were in a relationship previously that’s why the pastor still had a key because you only give a key to somebody you trust but with that being said if you have a key means you have permission to enter .

  2. First, let me say I send my sincere condolences to the family of Stephen Williams. The season of death is never easy. I know of Stephen from being in the shop with Maurice and services he’d rendered to my sister. I know Maurice Davenport II and I have known Maurice for a very long time. I am heavily involved in Maurice’s finances, and I can assure you that he did not need to steal anything from anyone. I am also certain that this whole situation is definitely a misunderstanding and there is more to the story. I hate the intent of anyone trying to assassinate this man’s character. Mr. Davenport is a man of integrity, honesty, love and respect. My prayer is that this situation can be resolved in a decent and order manner. I pray this entire situation ends well.!

  3. If the friendship was no longer what it once was WHY did he still have a key to his apartment? The math ain’t mathing!! Only certain people in my family have a key to my house, so yeah make it make sense! 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Exactly, once the friendship faded, the key would have been the first thing i got back. I still would change my locks just incase you made a copy.

I am sorry for the loss of your family member. My heart goes out to you all. Also I know Pastor Davenport to be a good man. I hope all concerned can reason together and end this misunderstanding.
